I had the honour of speaking at the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Club of America judges‘ seminar in Jerome, Idaho last February. I figured that the WPGCA was probably made up of a dedicated group of hunters and breeders, so meeting them and their dogs would be a real treat. But I had never been to Idaho, so I had no idea what it would be like out there. It turns out that I was right about the WPGCA folks and their dogs; nice people, nice dogs. But what about Idaho? What was it like?
There’s a crazy sky over Idaho. The land is tough. The plants are tougher.
The WPGCA is like a big family.
A family that loves dogs.A family in which everyone is loved unconditionally by the dogs.
The hunt test is held in a beautiful valley.
Where the dogs smile as they hunt.
They run, point, swim, track and fetch.
The judges are so focused on judging, they have little time to take it all in. But at the end of the day, I think they all know how lucky they are to be able to spend time with good dogs, and good people, under a crazy Idaho sky.
